/ / Project Context

A distributor for respirators, hired me to produce a CGI commercial and product images for one of their FFP2 mask, in order to be used on packaging, online stores, ads etc.

During the 2-month period, we held weekly deep-dive meetings and kept communication fluid through a steady stream of emails, fine-tuning every element to align with their vision.

The final product was a bold and visually intense campaign, that captures the attention and imagination of their audience.

/ / Material + Light

↓  first test for the filtering fabric:
↓ test material for the nose adjustment clip
↓ concept to visualize aerosols being repelled by the mask:
↓ different variants of visible light sources, this idea was discharged in order to keep focus on the mask:
↓  test to inlude small hair fibres on the mask, this was removed to obtain a cleaner, more sterile look:

/ /  SSS + Modeling

↓  visualizing subsurface scattering working, backlight being more ore less bright depending on the fabric thickness:
↓  modeled mask, high level of detail on the edges – appearing from melting together the different layers – is needed for the subsurface scattering
↓  starting to fold the mask into shape:
↓  added nose clip, visible due to subsurface scattering:
↓  test animation for bending the nose clip:
↓  fine tuning on the model, especially on the middle seam. Subsurface scattering is making some issues as the model is colliding with itself on some points, creating dark artefacts.
↓  testing the model with scenic lighting:

/ / Finetuning + Detailing

↓  further developement on the fabric material layering together different types of noise and surface maps:
↓  creating the innerlaying material varieties:

/ /  Animation

↓  animation test for taking apart the inner layers:
↓  test to inclue some kind of "wind" effect:
